Martial Arts
Build a strong foundation for martial arts through structured, supportive training.
Supporting martial arts training
Martial arts training places unique demands on the body - combining strength, coordination, endurance, decision-making, and exposure to unpredictable physical contact. Supporting this type of training requires more than generic gym work or isolated exercises.
My role is not to teach martial arts techniques, but to support the physical and training demands that come with practising them. Drawing on experience across karate, boxing, judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and previous training in Krav Maga, I understand how different martial arts stress the body in different ways and where common limitations tend to arise.
Training support focuses on building the strength, conditioning, and movement capacity required to train consistently, recover effectively, and tolerate the physical demands of practice over time. The emphasis is on complementing your martial arts training, not replacing it.

What's Included In Your Martial Arts Session?
Movement and physical preparation
Sessions focus on preparing your body for the demands of martial arts training, including strength, coordination, and movement capacity relevant to your discipline.
Strength and conditioning for martial arts
Targeted strength and conditioning is used to build the physical qualities required to train consistently and safely, without interfering with your technical training.
Conditioning and work capacity
Training may include conditioning work that reflects the energy demands of martial arts, supporting endurance, repeat effort, and recovery between sessions.
Load management and recovery support
Sessions consider overall training load, recovery, and readiness, helping you balance martial arts practice with strength and conditioning over time.
What physical demands does martial arts place on the body?
Martial arts place demands on strength, coordination, endurance, and movement control as integrated systems, rather than isolating individual muscle groups.
Preparing your body for martial arts training
Whether you’re preparing to start martial arts for the first time or already training regularly, the physical demands of practice can place significant stress on the body. Supportive training focuses on building the strength, conditioning, and movement capacity needed to train consistently, recover effectively, and tolerate the demands of your chosen discipline.
This approach can help by:
Building baseline strength and conditioning before starting a new martial art
Improving physical capacity to support ongoing training and higher training loads
Complementing existing martial arts practice without interfering with technical development
Supporting recovery and readiness across training weeks
Helping reduce injury risk associated with rapid increases in load or intensity
Training here is designed to support your martial arts practice, not replace it, with technique instruction, sparring, and grading remaining the role of your dojo or club.
Looking ahead
Alongside general martial arts training support, this area of my work continues to evolve. I’m currently involved in a new athlete collaboration that reflects the same principles outlined above – with updates to follow once the work is established and appropriate to share.
